Process
I follow the Japanese tradition of Saori or free-weaving. I do not use or follow a pattern, but rather intuitively feel what must come next. I don’t think, I just let the weaving come and flow. Click to continue reading..
I work with both a floor loom with peddles – a beautiful full body weaving momentum and experience – and a lap loom which allows me to work outside in nature. Working with my own handspun yarn and other natural fibres, yarns and materials from Australia and beyond, each piece takes a considerable amount of time – often several days to hand-weave one piece.
The process is very human. No machine could replicate the feeling and detail that goes into each individual piece and I believe you can feel it in the cloth. The human touch and intention that has gone into creating it. I wouldn’t want to create any other way.
